Last week I posted a video teaching “5 Bossa Nova Comping Patterns” I picked up in Rio de Janeiro. As a follow up I just posted what I believe is the ideal vehicle to practice those comping patterns over. I’m of course referring to Antonio Carlos Jobim’s, classic bossa, “Wave”. And like most of Jobim’s compositions this isn’t just an ordinary bossa. There is a lot more that is revealed when we peak under the hood on this one. It’s actually a 12 bar blues with a bridge!

In this lesson I teach you the “disguised” harmonic structure to this tune; and believe me, once you understand how it relates to several chord progressions you have heard dozens of times, you’ll never think of it as just another bossa.
