Secret Love
Secret Love
Did you know that some of the greatest jazz standards are originally classic movie themes? To name just a few… “The Way You Look Tonight” (Swing Time / 1936), “Someday My Prince Will Come” (Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs /1937), “As Time Goes By” ( Casablanca /1942), “Stella By Starlight” (The Uninvited /1944), “Days of Wine and Roses” (Same /1962), “My Favorite Things” (The Sound of Music /1965), and the list goes on and on!
In this lesson I want to introduce you to another lovely but lesser known standard from the 1953 movie, “Calamity Jane”, where it was first performed by Doris Day. Some jazz artists who have recorded it include: John Coltrane & Cannonball Adderley, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Brad Mehldau, and my favorite version by Jim Hall. It’s called… “Secret Love” !
