This is the 2nd in a series of “Coltrane Guitar Perspectives” on using pentatonics.  In it I show you how the legendary John Coltrane pioneered the use of the common minor pentatonic in jazz by super-imposing it over different chord progressions!

In this follow up, I want to introduce you to another minor pentatonic which has a very unique and exotic sound. This one was sometimes used by Coltrane and later post bop musicians over several modes of the melodic minor! I’m referring to the Kumoi Minor Pentatonic which is actually derived from the tuning of the Japanese Koto string instrument.

Like I did with the previous pentatonic, in this video I teach you how to create lines from motivic sequences as well as show you some “ready to play” II-V-I lines using exclusively the Kumoi Minor Pentatonic.
