Have you ever noticed those impressionistic piano chords that Bill Evans used when comping behind Miles on “So What” or McCoy Tyner for John Coltrane? They are voicings in 4ths and add a fresh modern sound when combined with those drop voicings we guitarists resort to almost exclusively when comping.
